Some Timely Inspiration

When: Wednesday, April 13

I was reading my People Style Watch for April last night and came across this fantastic outfit worn by Rachel Bilson. I usually don't take inspiration for an entire outfit from celebrities because, let's be real here, I do not have the budget or access to the types of clothes celebrities do. In fact my philosophy of late has been leaning toward thrifting and nothing else. Thrifting is the way to go if you want to add style to your look without breaking the bank. Anyway, I digress.

Tribal Necklace
Nude Colored Sandals
Nuetral Colored Dress
Brightly Colored Jacket
Sunglasses
Statement Bag

I really liked the simplicity of her outfit with the focus on the bright coat she is wearing and the down playing of all the other details. So I had a light bulb moment...I had just purchased, on Tuesday from the Goodwill, a beautiful robin egg blue ultrasuede blazer. In my closet I had hanging this safari style dress that I had purchased on sale at H&M. I haven't worn my dress yet because the color next to pasty white skin didn't look that terrific. Since I have a bit of color now I thought the dress would be perfect to try and use Rachel's outfit for inspiration. Notice I said inspiration  not copying. I used the basic same principles that she used but added my own inspiration ideas.

I kept thinking about this outfit and of vintage themes. I like to sometimes create a role for myself to "play" when I get dressed. This particular outfit mind the 1940's and the outfits a woman might have worn traveling on holiday. I added the corsage and then the beads thinking that they would be worn as a souvenir from my "trip" I took. I chose to take my pictures at the railroad station museum in my town. It was a lot of fun. I love the creativity I put into styling the outfit. That is one of the things I have learned through blogging. Enjoy!

XOXO,

J

  1. Hey there
I found my way over via EBEW
Cute look and don't you just love Rachel's style??
I love that you paired the blue with the khaki. I can't really wear that color alone due to my fair skin.
Enjoyed browsing your blog and look forward to stopping by again soon.
